Translation
1) All glories, all glories to the dear son of Jagannatha Misra and Saci Devi! All the three worlds offer prayers unto His lotus feet.
2) In Nilacala He holds the conch shell, disc, club, and lotus flower, while in the town of Nadiya He holds a sannyasi staff and water pot.
3) It is said that in olden times, as Lord Ramacandra, He killed the demon Ravana. Then later, as Lord Krsna, He revealed the splendrously opulent pastimes of Goloka.
4) It is He who has come. He has come! Oh, from Vraja He has come to Nadiya. Accepting the mood and luster of Sri Radha, He has come from Vraja to Nadiya. He has come! Now Lord Govinda, the cowherd boy, has come as Lord Gauranga. He has come distributing the Hare Krsna Mahamantra!
5) Vasudeva Ghosa says with folded hands, "He who is Gaura is He who is Krishna is He who is Jagannatha."
Spiritual Significance
Jaya Jaya Jagannatha Sacira Nandana is a celebrated kirtan by Srila Vasudeva Ghosa, one of the three Ghosa Brothers — close associates of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. In just five short verses, Vasudeva Ghosa establishes the theological identity "Jei Gaura, Sei Krishna, Sei Jagannatha" — He who is Gauranga in Nadia is the same Krishna who killed Ravana as Rama, who revealed Goloka as Krishna in Vraja, and who now stands as Jagannatha in Puri.
Scriptural Source & Tradition
The song appears in the kirtan collections preserved by the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition since the 16th century. Sri Vasudeva Ghosa, his brothers Sri Madhava Ghosa and Sri Govinda Ghosa, were so dear to Mahaprabhu that the Lord personally proclaimed "Ghosa-thakura is the foremost of kirtaniyas." Their songs are recorded in the Chaitanya-Charitamrita (Madhya 16.99) and Chaitanya-Bhagavata.
Commentary from the Acharyas
Srila Prabhupada explained that Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is Krishna Himself in the mood of Srimati Radharani, tasting His own sweetness. Vasudeva Ghosa's final declaration — "jei gaura sei krishna sei jagannath" — is the siddhanta (settled conclusion) of the Gaudiya school: Gauranga is not a separate avatar but Krishna Himself wearing the golden complexion of Radha.
Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura, commenting on this song, urged devotees to chant it at the start of every Mahaprabhu kirtan because it instantly establishes the correct understanding — that worshipping Gauranga, Krishna and Jagannatha is one and the same worship.

Gratitude to His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada
We offer our humble obeisances at the lotus feet of our founder-acharya, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada, without whose causeless mercy the priceless prayers, bhajans and sacred literature of the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition would have remained inaccessible to most of the world. By his herculean preaching efforts, his unparalleled translations and his founding of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), the holy names, pastimes and instructions of Sri Sri Radha-Krishna and Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu are today chanted in every town and village.
