Srila Prabhupada's Books — A Complete Library of Vedic Wisdom
His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada translated and commented on over 80 volumes of Sanskrit scripture. All are freely available online and in print through ISKCON centres worldwide.
Why Read Srila Prabhupada's Books?
His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada single-handedly translated and commented on over 80 volumes of Vedic scripture between 1965 and 1977, working four to five hours before dawn every morning in his final years. His mission — to give every person in the world access to the liberating knowledge of the Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam — produced the most complete library of Vedic literature in the English language. Today these books have been translated into more than 75 languages and distributed in over 500 million copies worldwide.
Unlike many modern interpretations of Vedic texts, Prabhupada presented these scriptures "as they are" — without personal speculation or compromise. He received the tradition through an unbroken disciplic succession (parampara) stretching from Lord Krishna through Brahma, Narada, Vyasadeva, and the Six Goswamis of Vrindavana to Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura, his own spiritual master. This lineage ensures that the meaning of each verse is preserved exactly as it was taught by Lord Krishna Himself.
Whether you are approaching these books as a philosopher, a yoga practitioner, or simply someone seeking answers to life's deeper questions, Srila Prabhupada's writing meets you where you are. He addresses universal questions — Who am I? Why do I suffer? What is the goal of life? — using examples drawn from both ancient scripture and modern life. All books listed below are available to read free of charge on Vedabase.io, ISKCON's official archive of Prabhupada's works.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta

Written in Bengali by Krishnadasa Kaviraja Goswami and translated by Prabhupada in 17 volumes, it explains the philosophy of acintya-bhedabheda through Mahaprabhu's conversations, travels and miracles.

Nectar of Instruction
Translates and expounds eleven key verses by Srila Rupa Goswami on regulating the senses, cultivating devotional relationships, and the six loving exchanges between Vaishnavas. New devotees and anyone wanting a compact, practical guide to bhakti practice.
Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Personality of Godhead
A retelling of the Tenth Canto of the Srimad-Bhagavatam describing Krishna's childhood pastimes in Vrindavana, His killing of demons, and His teachings to Uddhava. Prabhupada presented it as 'pleasure reading' for devotees wanting to meditate on Krishna's beauty and divine activities. The two-volume set is vivid, accessible, and richly detailed.
Anyone who loves Krishna's pastimes and wants a story-format immersion in the Tenth Canto.
The Nectar of Devotion
A summary study of Srila Rupa Goswami's Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu — the definitive 16th-century textbook on pure devotional service. It classifies the sixty-four items of bhakti, the five primary relationships with Krishna, and the transcendental mellows (rasas). Prabhupada considered it the highest instruction on perfecting one's love for Krishna.
Devotees wanting a systematic understanding of Vaishnava theology and the path of pure bhakti.
Śrī Īśopaniṣad
The shortest of the 108 Upanishads — only 18 mantras — yet Prabhupada considered it sufficient to understand the entire Vedic philosophy. Each mantra, with extensive commentary, explains the personal nature of God, proper use of material resources, and the goal of self-realisation. Read it alongside the Bhagavad-gita for a complete philosophical foundation.
Philosophical seekers and students of Vedanta wanting a concise systematic overview.
Śrī Brahma-saṁhitā
Prayers of Lord Brahma to Lord Govinda (Krishna) composed at the beginning of creation — one of the most profound Vaishnava texts. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu discovered this scripture in Kerala and personally brought it back to Bengal. Commentary by Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura reveals Krishna's eternal form, abode and qualities in poetic Sanskrit.
Devotees wanting to meditate on Krishna's eternal form and the rasas of divine love.
Perfect Questions, Perfect Answers

The Path of Perfection
Based on Prabhupada's lectures on the Sixth Chapter of Bhagavad-gita on dhyana (meditation) yoga. He explains why modern meditation techniques fall short and how fixing the mind on Krishna is the highest and most relevant yoga for the present age. Practical, direct, and free of technical jargon, it bridges ancient wisdom and contemporary spiritual seeking.
Meditators, yoga practitioners, and anyone curious about the purpose of spiritual disciplines.
Teachings of Queen Kuntī
Compiles Queen Kunti's famous prayers from the First Canto of Srimad-Bhagavatam, in which she glorifies Krishna and prays to always have difficulties so that she may remember Him. A deeply moving read on maintaining spiritual vision during life's hardships.
Devotees going through difficulties or seeking wisdom on surrender and gratitude.
Chant and be happy
An introductory book on the power and philosophy of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra, compiled from conversations between Prabhupada, John Lennon, and George Harrison. One of the best first books to share with a friend curious about Krishna consciousness.
Total beginners and anyone wondering what the Hare Krishna movement is about.
On the Way to Kṛṣṇa

Written in conversational English without requiring prior philosophical background.
Seekers of all backgrounds wanting an accessible overview of the soul's spiritual journey.
The Journey of Self-Discovery
A compilation of Prabhupada's interviews, conversations, and essays on yoga, meditation, reincarnation, and the purpose of human life. An excellent book to share with family members curious about spirituality.
Friends and family of devotees, and anyone exploring Indian philosophy for the first time.
A Second Chance
Based on the story of Ajamila from the Sixth Canto of Srimad-Bhagavatam — a man who led a sinful life and was saved at the moment of death by uttering the holy name. Prabhupada uses this narrative to explore karma, the process of dying, the Yamadutas, and the supreme power of the holy name to purify the most fallen soul.
Anyone curious about death, karma, and the afterlife from a Vedic perspective.
Śrīla Prabhupāda-līlāmṛta
The definitive multi-volume biography of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada by Satsvarupa Dasa Goswami, covering his birth in Calcutta in 1896, his mission to the West, and the founding of ISKCON. Anyone who wants to understand the life, mission, and extraordinary courage of ISKCON's founder.
How to Begin Reading
If you are new to Srila Prabhupada's books, the traditional guidance given in ISKCON is to start with the Bhagavad-gita As It Is. Reading just one or two verses per day with the purport is sufficient — there is no need to rush. After completing the Bhagavad-gita, many devotees move to the Nectar of Instruction and the Nectar of Devotion before exploring the Srimad-Bhagavatam.
For those who prefer a conversational style, Perfect Questions, Perfect Answers or Chant and Be Happy make excellent entry points that can be read in a single sitting. If you are philosophically inclined, Sri Isopanisad offers a rigorous but brief foundation. All books are freely available online at Vedabase.io and in print from your nearest ISKCON temple or book table.
At KC Zenithians in Hyderabad, our weekly Saturday satsang sessions include verse-by-verse Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam study — join us in Nallagandla to hear these books come alive in the company of devotees. There is no better way to understand scripture than through association with those who are living it.
